AM2R: Innovation on Two Wheels and Soft Mobility

AM2R – Mobilizing Agenda for Business Innovation in the TwoWheel Sector is a consortium funded by the PRR/Next Generation EU that brings together 47 companies and institutions, including the leader, Polisport, and the coordinator ABIMOTA. AM2R’s mission is to accelerate the sector’s technological and productive transition, focusing on Industry 4.0 technologies, soft mobility, digitalisation, and sustainability.

Portugal’s AM2R programme nears completion in December 2025, the country’s two‑wheel industry stands transformed. Under ABIMOTA’s coordination AM2R goals were clear: accelerate digitalisation, strengthen supply chains, boost innovation, and position Portugal as a European hub for sustainable mobility.

AM2R has reshaped the ecosystem by advancing productivity, competitiveness, and enabling the shift from OEM to ODM, securing intellectual property and creating higher‑value products, especially in e‑mobility. With €213 million invested in Industry 4.0, companies adopted automation, cobots, digital twins, and intelligent assembly, achieving 10–20% output gains, reduced rework, and faster development cycles.

The “One Stop Solution” logistics platform reduced reliance on extra‑EU suppliers and improved export coordination. Sustainability became central, with modular design, recycled materials, low‑carbon resins, and circular initiatives such as take‑back and refurbishment. Collaboration with universities and the creation of BIKiNNOV accelerated R&D, delivering breakthroughs in e‑bike platforms, new materials, and rapid tooling.

Looking beyond 2025, ABIMOTA plans to improve momentum through training, certification, logistics, and technology transfer visibility and reinforcing its role as a competitive, innovation‑driven hub for sustainable two‑wheel industry and soft mobility.
